Coughton Court, Warwickshire

Where the students of the diocese visited this past week in a group. Coughton Court is a Catholic recusant house belonging to the old Throckmorton family that maintained its loyalty to the English kings and queens and was able to remain Catholic through the most difficult of times.

We did have better skies than these, however.

… and here is Stephanie Mann’s article on our Derbyshire martyrs and kind reference to our own description of our local martyr, Nicholas Garlick. Supremacy and Survival is a good reference for all things related to the rather turbulent times of sixteenth-century England. The blog is, of course, listed on our blogroll.

I would like to refer any readers also to Ms. Mann’s excellent book on the same subject and with the same name as the blog, which I was delighted to find on the shelves of our seminary library.
